The Sweet Briar Promise outlines our distinctive approach for providing meaningful, enduring education for women. It includes:

First-Year Residence Halls

First-year students are intentionally housed together in two residence halls — Grammer and Meta Glass — where each student lives in a double room with a roommate.

Both dormitories are air-conditioned and elevator-equipped and include standard twin beds, dressers with mirrors, a bookcase, a desk, shades and two closets. All rooms also have telephone with voice mail, basic cable television and Ethernet connections to the campus computer network.

Take a whirl around Sweet Briar's first-year student residence halls!

Grammer Residence Hall

Grammer Residence HallBuilt in 1912, Grammer Hall is named for the Rev. Carl Grammer, a member and former president of the SBC Board of Directors. Along with hardwood floors and a beautiful parlor, Grammer houses the First-Year Information Center and a TV lounge in the basement.

Like many buildings on campus, Grammer was part on an architectural plan envisioned by renowned architect Ralph Adams Cram, whose work also can be seen at MIT, Princeton, Wellesley, Rice and West Point.

It is one of 21 campus structures listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and on the National Register of Historic Places as the Sweet Briar College National Historic District.

Meta Glass Residence Hall

Meta Glass Residence HallMeta Glass Hall was built in 1962 and is named for Meta Glass, who was president of the College from 1925 to 1946. There are full kitchens on each floor and a TV lounge on the second floor.

On the first floor, Meta Glass houses the Sweet Briar Outdoor Program — better known as SWEBOP — and the post office.
